Biloxi
Small Hometown with Grand Adventures
One of our most recent family trips was to a small little city called Biloxi, MS. This city is on the gulf coast and has a hometown family feel. It is known for its casinos and military base; however, there is so much for families to explore, such as estates, presidential libraries, museums, and beaches. Not to mention a grand little island called Deer Island (keep reading to see more about this gem!)
The Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum offers a history of the Mississippi gulf coast and the Biloxi area. It features different types of fishing, boats, artwork, and various events each month, so make sure you check their website to see what you can discover. If you are inspired to jump on a ship, let the wind blow through your hair, and go fishing after your visit, you can make a reservation with one of the many charter fishing companies in the area. You can also fish from the many pears in the area. Not into fishing? Not a problem. The family can visit a local preserve called Deer Island. This island, just off the coat of Biloxi, is home to multiple endangered species. It has hiking trails, is an excellent place to canoe, paddle-board, or spend the day relaxing so pack and lunch and remember your camera so you can capture the wonderful scenery of the island.
Another exciting, not to mention historic, place to visit is the estate of Jefferson Davis. His retirement home, Beauvoir, is located in Biloxi. You can tour the grounds, mansion, cemetery, and presidential library. They offer different types of tours, specials events throughout the year, and a history of Jefferson Davis. The museum also provides cemetery and spirt tours after hours for those who like night time excitement. You can also take a chance to investigate the house for those beyond the grave (I’ll pass on this part). This is a great place to visit through out the year and somewhere to make memories with the family.

We spent a couple of hours in Biloxi a few years back, and really enjoyed it! It was only a pit stop in our road trip, so we didn’t have time to fully explore it. But I would definitely go back!
