A Home Away From Home

There is nothing better than feeling as if you have stepped into a second home while traveling. The moment you walk through the door, you know you can relax, have a wonderful trip and enjoy all the activities, amenities, and attractions. A home away from home is the exact feeling you experience when walking into the Tee Box on St. Simons. This beautifully renovated two bed and two bath condo, with a full-sized kitchen and table large enough for family meals, is the perfect place to kick up your heels, let your hair down, and create family memories.

Master

What truly makes this condo feel so homey are the owners. Kathy and her husband feel like life long friends the moment you start planning your stay. Kathy promptly answers all questions and gives excellent suggestions about places to visit and restaurants to enjoy for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. She takes great care to make sure recommendations are tailored to your family, so if you have young children, you will know of places the kids can run and play, have hands-on experiences, and enjoy a sweet treat at the end of the day. Kathy and her husband even follow up after your trip to make sure your vacation was one to remember. The Tee Box condo is magnificent.

Rainbow at sunset

The condo faces the pond, so each morning, you can enjoy drinking your morning coffee and eating breakfast from the balcony. The views from the two bedrooms are just as inviting. Wake up, admiring the fountain in the center of the pond. Watch the ducks swimming in the lake and start your day with a tranquil moment before a morning walk, energizing workout at the fitness center, or quiet morning read on one of the benches surrounding the water. My family and I enjoyed browsing through the different pamphlets provided. The brochures showed many activities on the island, such as a scavenger hunt for tree spirits, climbing to the top of the St. Simons lighthouse, and a WWII Coast Guard Fort.

Even better is that the condo is ideally located minutes from all the sightseeing, outdoor adventures, shopping, and restaurants. Our longest drive on St. Simons to get to a restaurant, landmark, or beach was about seven because there was slight traffic on the road. The condo is close to the beach, parks, and the St. Simons pier, where you can fish all day. However, what I enjoyed most about the condo, aside from feeling like I was home, was the variety of amenities at the condo itself. We could spend an entire day or two, just exploring the grounds of the complex.

Feeding the ducks

We started out feeding the ducks, which was a first for both of my kids. They loved following them around the pond and trying to bring them closer by quacking. We saw turtles and fish as well, who joined in the feast. The kids laughed when they saw all the animals racing like go-carts trying to be the first to get the piece of bread thrown in the water. We also spend some time at dusk playing on the swings under the giant Spanish moss-covered trees. We attempted to play ping pong as a family under the same tree; however, that quickly turned in to a game of “don’t let the ball get run over by a car.”

Rope swing

We spent a day at the pool as well. Even though the condo is about a two-minute walk, we decided to pack a lunch. We enjoyed meeting the neighbors, jumping in the pool, and playing with a beach ball. My daughter loved the kiddie pool. It was perfect for her to splash, swim, and walk around (which she is unable to do in the larger pool). My son experienced a first as well. He drummed up enough courage to jump into the shallow end without a noddle float, which turned into seeing how much he could splash my husband and myself standing close by in the water.

In the evenings, we enjoyed taking walks, learning what part of the day was everyone’s favorite, and watched the sunset while sitting on the balcony. The time finally slowed down, but the vacation way too short. I am looking forward to our next family vacation at the Tee Box, where I think we have found a new annual spot to make more family memories.
